More Posts
So, I’m going to start posting more things on here. Not just the journal entries that I’ve been posting up to now. It will still be my work, I just want to get more stuff out there besides the writing.

He was walking down the street with his little brother, Allen when they both stopped at the same time. He looked up and said: “The sky looks beautiful, doesn’t it?” ”Yeah…” was all that Allen said in reply. They had never been all that close. Well, that is not entirely true. When they were little, they had been close. They grew up on a farm outside of...

He laid there blinking rapidly and blocking the sun with his left hand. To the right, he saw the contrails of some jet, high above taking it’s passengers to some far-off destination. She was shaking him gently now, her voice a little louder than a whisper. ”Come on! We have to get up. Kevin’s band is playing tonight and it’s a long drive.” Kevin was her...

One of my first days subbing. Nerve-wracking at first but soon, I fell right in step with it. It felt amazing to finally be getting paid to do something that I love; teaching kids how to love art and how to make it. I am still subbing now. Looking for a “real” job all the while. It is not so bad but I am getting anxious. Ready to move on to that next step. You know, when you...

Philadelphia. An interesting night with brand-new people. Walking the streets for a bit while we waited to meet our reservation at the little Italian place we found online. When we got there the owner, in a heavy Italian accent made us go sit at the bar (in an old Italian guy kind of way) while he got some tables pushed together for us to eat at. I was the only one who drank at the bar. A...

The windows fogged from the rain. A long, lazy day. Nothing exciting happened. I brushed a dog in my t-shirt and jeans even though it was 35 degrees outside. That damn dog had a never-ending supply of hair to shed. I heard so many arguments in that house, it’s ridiculous. I participated in my share of them as well. I don’t miss those. Not one bit.
The world looked different...

It’s interesting looking at old pictures of myself. I’ve changed but not really. My hair is longer, beard fuller, and I’m a little thinner in the face. But I still look the same. The changes were all internalized. I am a little older and hopefully a little wiser. I’ve grown from everything that’s happened since then. Things that have happened and made me put...

A night of revelry and of friends. A birthday celebration. Miniature golfing and going to a bar on the lake. Laughing on the porch and broken glass. Stumbling out when the bigoted cook started making racist comments. A house tour and playing with other people’s cameras. Cats hiding upstairs and sneaking around thinking that no one would see them. Telling stories and jokes while...

Two fellow travelers here on this planet. One I have known for the last five years. Over that time we became close, drifted apart, and then back together. Becoming the best of friends. The other I have not known for nearly as long but I have still formed a bond with.
The three of us tromped through the mud at Mendon Ponds one afternoon and finally found a dry hill to drink some beer on. We...

A bitterly cold day. Five degrees outside and the air is completely still. Not a cloud in the sky and everything was silent. I sat and smoked most of a pack of cigarettes that morning. I would always come out and brush the freshly fallen snow off of a spot on the porch next to the pillar and sit there. Or I would just pace back and forth, looking down at how my boots or moccasins would pack...

This was the last time that some of us ever saw each other. Backyard of the Alfred Street house with some people that I miss and with others that I don’t. We spent hours grilling food and drinking beer. Lots of beer, until most of us were drunk. We decided to set fireworks off. Mostly just some giant bottle rockets but also some Roman Candles. One of them ended up landing on the...

The first snow of the year fell gently around them. They were sitting on her porch, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes in silence. Neither had said much to the other for the last few weeks. He had been busy at his new job and she was busy with her classwork. He still felt good about things though and was thinking about what to buy her for Christmas. His eyes closed, he looked up towards...

The flash from the camera erupted like it was being fired out of a 10-gauge shotgun. Further away than she could see, something bolted into the underbrush. All she heard were a few twigs snapping and then nothing but silence again. She trudged forward. The path illuminated by the moon and star light but she was still seeing spots from her camera flash. ”I may as well be using...

The young man stared up through the overhanging branches. He listened intently for any sound of another Man. He was lost but only in a physical sense. His body was in a place that it had never been and did not know how to return to the places it knew. His mind however, was beaming. He had never felt this at home. No one was here to bother him. To ask him trivial questions or complain...

Tromping through a tree farm looking for a Christmas tree. I was dressed in much too nice of clothing to lie in the mud for 30 minutes sawing a tree down but it felt good when we were done and the ache in my right arm was proof of it. We ran across some milkweed and played like children. Pulling it apart and blowing it like fluffy bath bubbles. I was just recently back to this places and not...

He was like my brother for four years. We grew incredibly close. We shared laughs, drinks, more meals than I can count and we shared secrets. We celebrated birthdays and other holidays like a family and we have told each other everything.
Looking back, this walk in the woods was a nice metaphor for the next few months of our lives. We were both lost, uncertain about either of our futures....

The water. Infinite in it’s beauty and nearly as infinite in appearance. The water joined the sky on this day and it was incredible. The fog was thick across the lake and the air was still. The perfect moment on the water. The only regret that I have is that I did not wade out into the water. So that I might have melded with that perfect day. Surrounded by the fog and the surf. The...

Luna. A good friend’s cat. I have not seen either of them in ages. It is strange looking at this photo. I am instantly transported back to the day that I took it. I can remember who was there and what we did. I know that this is the beauty of photographs but sometimes, it hits me hard. I miss this day. And I miss this cat. Even if she did hate nearly everyone. But then again, she...

My grandparents ashes. My stepfather made this urn after my grandfather passed away and when my grandmother also passed, her ashes were also added. It’s kind of beautiful really; they were together for so long and now they are together for eternity. We still have to scatter their ashes over the lake that they used to live on. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of coordinating. One uncle...

I’m drawn to large bodies of water. When I’m near them, I feel safe and secure. Something about the noise of the waves and the sea-breeze combining to create a beautiful, natural symphony. I think as humans, we have an innate love of the sea but I also believe that as time goes on, we try to ignore it. Or maybe it’s just slowly leaving us. We treat the sea as a...

My New Cooking Blog!! →
Hey Everyone,
So, lately I’ve been getting tired of the boring repetition of going to work and coming home every day so I figured I needed something new to occupy my time. I cook from scratch nearly every night so I had the idea to make a new blog to share my recipes along with photos of the dishes. I’m vegetarian so naturally, all of the dishes are as well but that doesn’t...

I took this photograph on a trip to Petaluma, CA a few years back. I was visiting a friend but things fell through. I had already paid for the hotel room though so I didn’t leave it for two days straight. I didn’t eat or drink anything and I just stared watched television and stared at the ceiling. I finally walked two miles to a Burger King and scarfed down more food than I care...

I made this photograph while on a flight to the University of Maryland. I was flying down there to teach blind high school students how to program and use LEGO Mindstorm robots for a week-long session. It was an amazing experience.
To me, this photograph is freedom incarnate. The only thing that I’ve wanted since I was a child is the ability to fly. Not in a plane or helicopter. But...

This is the photograph that really started my fascination with night-photography. I had gotten bored one night and took some test shots in my bathroom. The quality wasn’t very good because Nikon D-200 + Long Exposure = crappy photo. However, I kept at it and decided to make more photographs with 4x5 color negatives. This was my first one. I instantly fell in love with the sharpness...

This is the same welcome center from “X”, just a different section. I was on my way home at Thanksgiving break and in my usual habit, I stopped there to stretch my legs and photograph. It was an exceptionally foggy day and in the mountains, it was even worse. I had 3200 speed film and no film guide in the Holga that I was using. I wasn’t expecting anything to come out but I...

This photograph was made at my friend Vikki’s old house in Irondequoit. This photograph typifies not only her home, but also my idea of home. The house she lived in was elegant and quiet; the two things that I love the most in a house. Everything in that house fit perfectly and nothing ever seemed out of place. She is in Washington, D.C. getting her Master’s Degree now and her...

Looking through my photographs, I realize that I am drawn to create incredibly quiet photographs. Some might say “lonely” and that may be the case; at least with some of them. Many of my photographs are calm, soft, and quiet and there is an absence of Man throughout or rather, an absence of human beings. Many contain examples of Man’s leavings. The things that we leave...

This is my bed at my father’s house. My parents divorced when I was five or six years old and when I was about 8, my dad moved into the house that he lives in now. I hated going to visit him growing up because it was a 4+ hour drive one way and on the Interstate. Doing that every other weekend for 8 years got really old really fast. The only thing that I really liked was that I had a...

All that I can think about when I view this photograph is the carnival that used to happen every summer in the park behind the house that I grew up in. I remember my grandparents visiting and my grandfather giving me five dollars to spend however I wanted. I would usually blow it all on the darts game or the one where you throw ping pong balls into the little glass bowls to try and win...

This is my cat Jett (or Bubba as my mother likes to call him.) He has been through a lot in the few years we’ve had him. He’s inbred, he got hit by a car, he’s had his head accidentally slammed in a door, and he messed up his hip jumping off of our porch. He’s a tough one though, just a little ornery. He’s super adorable and I still love him though, even with...

This was taken at a welcome center on the drive back to my family’s home in eastern PA. It’s a beautiful drive and I’ve made it enough times that I don’t even need to think about it anymore. The only problem with that is the CD player in my car doesn’t work so I usually just end up talking/singing to myself for 4-5 hours. People don’t normally come home...

Jill and I had gone out to dinner/shop and we were on our way home when I took this. I had been photographing the entire night and most of the day but there hadn’t been a lot of very interesting things that I could find. I was also just starting to use 3200 ISO film so I was seeing how it looked when I shot it at night. We were almost home when I saw tis construction equipment from a...

I made this photograph over the summer when I was walking along Beach Ave in Charlotte, NY. I had spent the first part of the day painting part of my friend Vikki’s house. After finishing the work I was doing, we drove over to the beach and started walking around. It was so interesting looking at the differences between the houses that overlook the water and the ones that are across the...

This photo was obviously not taken by me. My friend Elise from Minneapolis did a print trade with me last year and we decided to do Polaroids. I sent her one of my cloud photos and she sent me this photograph of a maple tree. I love everything about the photo; the colors of the leaves, the tree “growing” out of the bottom corner and spreading through the frame and even the little...

This was taken earlier in the day when I was on the drive to the lake. I was on some back road in the middle of nowhere when I saw this sunflower out of the corner of my eye. I turned around and pulled up next to so I could get out and photograph it. I was amazed that this dead sunflower was somehow the only thing left standing in this field after winter had taken its toll. Sure, it was a...

I took this photograph when I was out for a drive last spring. I somehow made my way from Rochester to Canandaigua taking only back roads and then I headed north towards Lake Ontario. Once I got there, I found one of my favorite spots along the water and parked. After walking around for a bit, nit finding anything interesting, I happened upon this cluster of bushes encased in ice. I’ve...

More sky. I’ll never stop photographing it. The “slash” of sky between the two bits of clouds are the most interesting part for me. Along with the gradient of the sky, it creates a nice bit of movement up through the photo. This is another great example of why I love Polaroids; the blues that they created in the sky.
Like I’ve said before, every time I see a...

I created this photograph around the same time as the previous one. We took a trip to Vassar College and spent a few hours exploring the campus there. It was an interesting experience considering the fact that I rarely ever visit other schools. The campus was incredibly beautiful, even with all of the bricks. The grounds were enormous and there were streams, gardens, and even a few ponds....

I took this photograph almost exactly two years ago when I was in Poughkeepsie, NY. I can’t remember the name of the part that we were at, I think it had something to do with FDR. Anyway, the figure is someone who I was visiting the park with. I’m attracted to this photograph because she is so small in comparison to the building and at first glance, you don’t even notice...

I chose to start with this Polaroid because it represents a lot of the things that I am most attracted to in photography. The “quickness” of the Polaroid is the first. They are something that I miss creating dearly because of the ease of the final product but I can still take time to compose the image. Secondly, I enjoy making images that contain colors that aren’t...

This Tumblog is an online version of a journal I am creating. Contained within are the photographs that I have created that I am the most attracted to. They are the ones that hold the most emotional content for me. I’ve never really written about my own work before so this is going to be an interesting adventure for me. I am excited to see where this leads and what I discover about my...
