I

I chose to start with this Polaroid because it represents a lot of the things that I am most attracted to in photography. The “quickness” of the Polaroid is the first. They are something that I miss creating dearly because of the ease of the final product but I can still take time to compose the image. Secondly, I enjoy making images that contain colors that aren’t “true to life.” For my purposes, I’d rather have colors that are off than colors that were there when I created the photograph. The sky pops in the photo and it’s much more interesting than if it looked exactly like it did when I took it. Finally, I’ve always had an extreme attraction the sky/clouds. I’ve always wanted the ability to fly and for a time, I even considered being a pilot. (At least until I found out I was color deficient.) To me, the sky is the freest place on Earth and I long to be up there. If I had the power of flight, I don’t know of any other way that I could be happier. Hayao Miyazaki’s films are some of my favorite films, animated or otherwise and I think that it’s because of the flying machines that he’s created in them. They’re so graceful and organic that I can just imagine flying one in those beautiful skies…
