I made this photograph over the summer when I was walking along Beach Ave in Charlotte, NY. I had spent the first part of the day painting part of my friend Vikki’s house. After finishing the work I was doing, we drove over to the beach and started walking around. It was so interesting looking at the differences between the houses that overlook the water and the ones that are across the street. The houses overlooking Lake Ontario are all very nice, old houses that have well-to-do families living in them. On the other side of the street though, there are a lot of houses that just look run-down in comparison. Most of them really aren’t but the contrast is so stark that it just makes them look worse. This photo was taken when I was looking at one of the “fancy” houses. It had this beautifully manicured garden in their front yard and I immediately fell in love with it. The shrubs were all so perfectly trimmed and a bright green and the rabbit bird feeder was surrounded by tall, beautiful grass with flowers scattered throughout. It was getting towards the end of the day and the light was falling beautifully across the yard. Even the fence in the background looked incredible. It was such a beautiful day to go out and photograph and I’m glad that I was done with work early enough to go enjoy it.
